got stress?

Do you have stress in your life? If not, you're either oblivious or your physician prescribed you very strong psychotropic medication.

Needles to say, we're all under a tremendous amount of stress. We have responsibilities and task lists that don't end with deadlines of yesterday.

So I was thinking about this the other day and it occurred to me that there are at least two ways to handle it:

  1. Give in. Get upset. Sulk and brood over the fact that there is so much to do and so little time to do it. Go into a funk and die early.
  2. Accept it. Embrace it. Work hard. Play harder. Don't take yourself so seriously. Look at the big picture. Live longer.
The Truth
Stress never goes away. In fact, it actually follows the Hindu religious belief 'reincarnation' in that just when you think its gone, it returns in a slightly different form.

    I disagree.

Yes option 2 is the way forward if you do suffer stress but I firmly believe that some people don't suffer stress.

At least not in the way I understand your implication. I don't find work stressful. I don't find my life or my family stressful. I don't find being a Christian stressful. However, there are times I feel under pressure to achieve something or reach a goal but stress and pressure are two entirely different things.

And I need much more room than a comment to respond adequately but I firmy believe that stress is man-made and man-solvable whereas pressure is something we all face and stress comes when we don't negotiate that pressure.

  2. Stuart,

Thanks for your insights. I totally agree. My terminology is all wrong. I was in the mental health field for years and actually made that distinction with clients many times. Now that I've been away for a while I tend to generalize and mix terms a bit more than I should.

    Thanks!
